Computer Repairs Oran Park

TechMedia diagnoses and fixes computers for households across Oran Park and South-West Sydney. If it is slow, will not start, or keeps doing something strange, we work out why and tell you what the fix involves.

What we look at

The problems we see most

Slow and freezing computers

Start-up congestion, failing hardware and background software are the usual causes. We find out which one it is before changing anything.

Windows and software faults

Errors on start-up, failed updates, programs that will not open, and driver problems that keep coming back.

Computers that will not start

No power, no display, or a loop back to the boot screen. Diagnosed onsite, or remotely where the machine will cooperate.

Hardware diagnosis

We test the machine and tell you what has failed. Parts are quoted before anything is ordered or fitted.

Software installation and troubleshooting

Getting the software you need installed and working, and sorting out the ones that already went wrong.

Repair or replace advice

Where a repair is not worth the money, we say so. You get a straight recommendation, not a sales pitch.

If the fault is not on this list, describe what it is doing. Most computer problems fall into one of these anyway.

Data and storage

Data recovery, when the fault is software

Some data loss is a software problem, not a physical one: corrupted files, a Windows fault that stops the machine booting, malware damage, or files that are on the drive but cannot be reached. Those cases can often be worked on as part of the repair.

Recovery is assessed first and never guaranteed. We look at what has actually happened, tell you whether recovery is realistic, and only then do the work.

Physical drive failure is different. If the drive is clicking, not detected at all, or has been dropped, stop using it and do not run repeated scans or recovery tools on it. That work belongs with a specialist data recovery provider. We take no fee for a referral.

How it works

Three steps, no surprises

1. Tell us the symptom. Send a message or call and describe what happens, including any error text on screen.

2. We diagnose it. Remote first where the fault allows it, onsite when the machine needs someone in front of it.

3. You get the finding and the cost. Anything beyond the diagnosis is quoted before it is done.

We do not run a drop-off workshop. Work is done onsite or remotely, so there is no counter to leave the machine at.

Common questions

Before you book

How much does computer repair cost in Oran Park?

Onsite labour is $198.00 per hour incl. GST, with a $82.50 incl. GST call-out once per visit and a one-hour minimum. Remote work is $165.00 per hour incl. GST. Anything beyond the diagnosis is quoted before it is done, so the first hour is the only figure you commit to blind.

Can you help if my computer will not start?

Usually yes. Start-up faults are diagnosed onsite, or remotely where the machine is still reachable. There is no drop-off workshop, so the machine is looked at where it is. If it turns out to be hardware, we tell you what has failed before anything is ordered.

Is it worth repairing an old computer or replacing it?

That depends on what has failed and what the machine is worth to you. We diagnose first, explain what the fix involves, and say plainly when a repair is not economic. You are not pushed toward either answer, and the finding is yours to act on.

Can you remove viruses and malware?

Malware damage is part of software troubleshooting, so yes, that is work we take on. We assess what has been affected, clean it where that is practical, and tell you when a machine is better rebuilt than cleaned. Where malware has damaged files, recovery is assessed rather than promised.

Can you repair my computer without losing my files?

Your files normally stay where they are. Where a repair does put data at risk, that is raised before any work starts, and a backup is the sensible first step. We do not promise that data survives a failing drive, which is why anything important should already be backed up.

What happens if a hard drive has physically failed?

Physical failure is specialist work. We stop rather than run scans or recovery tools on a drive that is clicking or no longer detected, and refer you to a specialist data recovery provider. We take no fee for that referral.

Are you able to recover data from a corrupted drive?

Sometimes. Corrupted files, a Windows fault that will not boot, malware damage and files that cannot be reached are software problems we can assess as part of the repair. Recovery is never guaranteed; we look at what has happened and tell you whether it is realistic first.
